Here We Are on Day Twelve!

Here We Are on Day Twelve!

July 20th, 2016

Well...this is the end of my master's at Acadia.  It is my very last day and I have been reflecting on my whole journey.  I have participated in 9 courses that have not focused on making me a better teacher, that have not greatly improved my practice, that have not provided tools to improve my students' education...and then there was this course.  Every single day has been about making me better, ensuring that I can assist my students to access their world and their education and introducing me to systems, apps, tools and new ways.

There are a whole lot of 'take away's' that I will actually be take away with me to be used!  Here are a few that have climbed to the top of my list -

Presume Competence - the mind set to bring to our schools and the world

AAC - holy cannolis!  Talk about open up someone's potential

Apps, apps & more apps - I started building a list on the very first class and there has not been a day that I haven't added to it either from the course assignments or from classmates suggestions.  There are so many cool ones but I should say that I have already paid actual cash money (people who know me just gasped) for Book Creator...I have already started planning emotional regulation lessons!

Low Tech - this was a new way of looking at the world and finding tools to make that world accessible to all of us.  This lens is going to be applied to my classroom, my school, my basement...

Accessibility Options - I was stunned that there were as many options just built in to the tools that we are already using!  There was a wealth of options to meet so many needs already in place.

Well...those are my top 5 but there were amazing moments every single day.  I can honestly say that this is the first time that I am sad at the end of the course...Thanks for everything you have taught me everyone...I will be a better teacher for having spent this time with you all.

  1. Wow Tracy. I'm thrilled you enjoyed the course so much and more importantly how much you are taking away to share with your students and your fellow teachers ! Amazing!
