This was our final project and I feel exceptionally lucky to have had such a creative group of people to work with. In particular, my partner in this project has been hard working, creative and generally wonderful.  Joanne was super collaborative, supportive and above all thoughtful about the needs of students.

This was an amazing day with a pretty astounding number of fabulous ideas being presented.  It was shocking that there was so very little overlap in ideas and it is staggering to think of the sheer number of ideas, concepts and projects that have been described today.  I had a lot of “Holy Cannoli” moments during the presentations!

Joy & Nike – Welcome Book!
This is a super, great and amazing idea!  I am jazzed to steal this idea for my outgoing grade 8’s to prepare for the in-coming grade 5’s!  The inclusion of these teacher-friendly instruction bubbles was fantastic (it will make it much easier for me to steal this awesome book!!!).   I am more than a little in awe of these two phenomenal women, you two have created something beautiful and useful that has kids very much at the centre.

John & Laurianne
This team presented a ton of interesting ideas to use with the Book Creator app.  They had great extension ideas of the pages that they had created that made their already large collection even more impressive.  I really appreciated the use of generating family albums that can be navigated in a variety of ways and demonstrate a variety of families.  The “choose your own adventure” idea is great.  It could be used in so many different ways with this form!

Alecia & Holly – Our Journey Through Primary
They started with a conversation about incorporation of the technology into older peer buddies, super great idea!  I sometimes have older students who are worried about reading buddies who would benefit from this role.  The creation of a writing portfolio book is awesome, I bet students and their parents would love to have this years from now.  Loved learning about the speech selection feature, it would make so many more pages accessible!

Suzanne & Dave
Visual schedules!!!  These are a great fit for this technology with the quick editing and various audio and visual output functions.  I think that my kiddos would appreciate adding audio to their language assignments (which can be painful productions!) and it might be the secret to ‘getting through’ the writing piece.  The speaking picture dictionary is a great idea for a lot of different uses in school.

Christine & Chelsea
The oral instructions are a great idea of kiddos but using the talking dog face is so funny that they would be motivated and engaged!  The funny movie maker app is a great addition to the book creator app!  The autobiography is a great individual project and I loved the idea to link the individual books to generate a class book that everyone could access.  It was awesome that there were so many student choice options within the assignments that allowed for even more adaptability.

Rachel & Terry
It was wonderful to have the project described by a famous person in the field.  Book creator as presentation tool would definitely result in colourful, interactive and engaging final product.  This is a great way to develop reference material for themselves and their classmates that can be assessed for understanding and provide them with information to carry forward.  It has been wonderful to see the materials and assignments that are already being used in classroom being adapted to this media with all of the strengths it has.

Michelle & Sheri
How amazing that social stories could be so easy to generate, modify and make accessible!?!  I am going to adapt the recipes that I use in my experiential cooking times and use book creator.  The idea of building the cook books through student projects is a great idea.  The use of the book to add information as new developments take place would be great for long term investment as well as later reference material.  The picture book of emotions is a great connection to the emotional regulation programing that personalises the experience.  (I am going to steal this to add to the booklet that I am stealing from Joy & Nike!)

Sue & Nick
The audio/visual components of the ABC book are great.  The yearbook is awesome; you can imagine a classroom library of these developing over the years!  Individualised letter dictionaries with the built in audio feature that allows them to continue to add words for each letter was great and super useful.  It was a great suggestion to publish them periodically; perhaps they could then be compiled into a single class reference book.  The connections to events unfolding in their own classroom with the life-cycle of the butterfly book would be so meaningful for students.

Chris & Jill

It was great to have a set of activities that cover a wide variety of grade levels and subject areas.  The family tree activity was super awesome!  I loved the idea of making the tree/images/labels be interactive to navigate the through the videos/pages of the book!  This was a real wealth of cool concepts that can be adapted and applied to lots of kiddos and situations.  The addictions book would be a fantastic way to make accessible and interesting important health information that can turn students off in the standard delivery format.

  1. Excellent posts and reflection Tracy! yes all the ideas were amazing and SO creative. I will also be snatching a few (if not all) of them to share with other classes! Glad you enjoyed the activity and was able to take away a product you can use in your practice.
